Welcome to Mrs. Yingling's website. My classes include British/World Literature, AP English Literature & Composition and American Literature. I also monitor the online newspaper called the Marauder Mirror, assist with the Poetry Out Loud Competition, and the Rotary Four Way Speech Competition. I am also the Drama Club moderator.
The following are my Classroom Rules:
Be on time and be prepared for class. Students should be in the room when the bell rings or have a signed pass giving permission to be late.
Class Participation: Students have the opportunity to earn two points per day or ten points per week by coming to class prepared, staying engaged in the class for the entire period, and or verbally answering questions.
Homework is due at the beginning of the class period. If homework is one day late 10% of the grade is lost, two days late 25% of the grade is lost, three days late 50% of the grade is lost and four days late results in a zero. Homework which is simply checked for completion, will only be accepted as I walk around the classroom. No one will be permitted to go to their lockers if one forgets their homework or other materials.
No one will be permitted to leave the classroom without a hall pass. All school business should be handled before/after school or during lunch, not during class time.
If a student is absent, he/she is responsible for all make up work. A schedule of daily assignments is available in the classroom to view.
Any work assigned on a day you are absent must be handed in two days after returning to school or it will be considered a zero. If you are in school but leave early for a school event, you must hand in your homework and get the day's assignment.
If a student misses a test or a quiz he/she will most likely take a different test or quiz than the other students. Make up tests can be scheduled after school.
Cheating of any form will not be tolerated. This includes copying any assignment or evaluation given in my class or for any other class. If any work is out for another class or being copied for another class, it will be given to the respective teacher.
Cell phones are not to be seen or heard or they will be taken to the office.
All students are expected to treat one another with respect. This means leaving property alone which does not belong to you, listening while others are speaking, and understanding that other students' opinions may differ from your own.
If anyone has any problems or questions throughout the course of the school year, please feel free to come and talk to me. I understand there could be situations which warrant extra time on an assignment. I am always willing to stay after school for extra assistance. The key is not to wait until it's too late, (the day an assignment is due or you are failing), please talk to me in advance so we can work together on the problem.
iPad usage: All iPad use must be teacher directed. iPads are to remain closed until students are given permission to open them. Failure to use the iPad appropriately will result in the loss of iPad privileges.
Suggested Class Materials: A three to five subject notebook, binder, or iPad to take notes.
A folder for homework and or graded assignments.
A pen or a pencil.
